The Victorian Little Athletics Association (VLAA) and Albury Little Athletics Centre (ALAC) are firmly committed to a coordinated and comprehensive approach to promote the protection of children, young persons and adults. In accordance with the Victorian and New South Wales Government principles for children and young persons protection, the VLAA and ALAC aims to promote a safe environment for all persons, be they children, young persons or adults and to recognize and notify suspected child or young person abuse and neglect.
The VLAA and ALAC are at all times committed to the belief that all people have a right to feel safe.
ALAC has developed a comprehensive policy that covers areas such as roles and responsibilities, definitions and indicators of child abuse, guide to protective practices and notification procedures. A copy of the policy is available at the Shed or by asking a committee member.
Committee, officials, coaches, parents and guardians often have a high level of contact with children in the sporting environment and play a major role in the successful operation of sporting activities.
All committee, officials, coaches, parents and guardians will be required to sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration which declares that they are not a person prohibited by the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 (NSW) from seeking, undertaking or remaining in child related employment. Under the Act, work performed as a volunteer for an organisation is classified as Employment. Any person unsure of their status in relation to the Act should seek legal advice.
The Victorian Working with Children Check must be completed by all parents who will be accompanying their children competing at events in Victoria.
Albury Little Athletics has appointed Child Protection Officers that will be available to assist officials, parents, guardians and children with any inquiries.
Working with Children Check
The Victorian Government through the Department of Justice has introduced the “Working with Children Act 2005,” which has distinct implications on the conduct of Little Athletics.
The WWC Check applies to adults who work with children or are engaged in volunteer roles involving children (under 18 years of age).
This means that people working or volunteering in connection with Little Athletics will be required to apply for WWC Checks.
Parents, who have a child registered at the Centre where they work or volunteer, are exempt from the WWC Check, unless they fall under one of the categories listed below or listed on our website www.alburylittleaths.org.au or VLAA’s website http://www.vlaa.com.au.
• Centre Executive Committee members
• Coaches and Team Managers
• Officials at State and Region level – ( not parent helpers who’s child is participating on the day)
• Volunteers without children registered at the Centre
• First Aid Personnel
